Malifaux: Vintage Pandora

I think the vintage models from Wyrd’s Guilder store may break me from the compulsive need to acquire every limited/special edition/alt model. You can collect Guilders by participating in sanctioned events, usually one for playing, and more for winning. With a total of 35 needed to get all seven currently available models, there’s no way I’ll get them all.

In the summer, I did manage to win a Henchman Hardcore tournament at Games of Berkeley. A Vintage model would be mine!

Pandora is in my faction, plus maybe the coolest of the set. So she was my clear choice.

I tried reverse shading the apparitions, though the faces looked wrong without darkened eyes and mouths. Otherwise, I kept it much the same as my original Pandora.

Malifaux: Black Blood Shamans

I talked myself into buying this box for the bonus Dark Debts model, in hopes of a translucent Huggy or something. I scored a opaque purple lady Illuminated, which wasn’t so exciting. But I also got some Black Blood Shamans (Shamen?)!

I tried to give the wings a bit more depth. As usual, my blending isn’t very smooth, but it passes the two foot test.

Now that I’ve got the Shaman, I really need to get the Nephilim box so I can start pumping out the Young. I’ve gotten a surprising amount of work out of Black Blood Pustule, however.

Malifaux: Stitched Together

I’ve considered getting Stitched since my first crew box two years ago, but now that they’re in plastic I finally got it done.

Sadly, I wasn’t feeling too creative while painting these guys up, so they’re kind of same-y. The turning one had a lamp in one hand, but it broke off and I let it be.

The rotten contents are pretty gruesome. I turned one arm up instead of down, which gives a bit more sense of life. Juicy.

Malifaux: Hide and Seek (Dreamer crew box)

The rest of my Adepticon Wyrd purchase, and my first Wave 2 Neverborn Master.

Dreamer
Dreamer

A simple young boy, wandering through the dreamscape of Malifaux. I wish his little friend looked more like a miniature, more cuddly Lord Chompy Bits.

I tried using an leopard spot airbrush stencil on Chompy arms, which gave it a nice mottled pattern. The wash I used ended up almost completely covering it, such that it’s too subtle to see. The lesson here is to not try to be subtle with that kind of pattern, and trust the wash to tone it down.

The Daydreams are just so cuddly. They’re so small I kept to a single color, just varying the tone to give some texture.

Coppelius
Coppelius

Coppelius is the Cthulhu monster that so much of Malifaux is clearly missing. His head has an interesting texture to it. I wish more Wyrd models had these kinds of textures on the surfaces. It makes my life so much easier than trying to paint them on.

The Alps have a fun variety of poses and heads. My favorite is the smoker. I painted their tunics to match the Daydreams, although it came out dark enough to be pretty hard to see.
