I got Vintage McMourning as a random promo a while ago. Now that I’m apparently doing Resurrectionists, it seemed appropriate to paint it up.
I’ve taken McMourning as a second master in one game. He pretty much single-handedly won me the game. His ability to ignore a bunch of defensive abilities makes him super dangerous. Unfortunately, his discard-to-move-4″ ability doesn’t synergize with the Fading abilities that Molly brings to the table.
The Nightmare Brine and Bones box emphatically includes a hat for Archie. It even includes an alt stat card with the hat and the name Arrrchie. Who am I to argue?
My friend Sean was kind enough to provide a cutlass from Wyrd’s old Driftwood Docks accessory pack, to complete the pirate theme.
I tried to use a couple skin tone variants to drive home the idea that the limbs had been stitched together, though it doesn’t come through much on the end product.
I had bought the von Schtook box at Adepticon on a whim, despite never playing Resurrectionists before. When Wyrd announced these undead pirates would be this year’s Nightmare alternate crew box, I knew I had my new faction.
Blacktongue / Molly comes complete with a skeletal parrot for her hat. Blacktongue is painted similarly to her minion Skellywags, but her bright red cloak sets her apart on the table.
The diving theme for Molly’s totem is what really sold me on the box. I don’t think I really sold it as old and decayed, but he’s still got the cool diving helmet so I’m happy.
Nani and the Voice is a bit disappointing as a model. Much like the new Anna Lovelace, this model doesn’t justify the large base size. While painting she was tacked temporarily on a 30mm and it looked just fine.
Amazingly, I made it all the way to my first game before I realized the pun behind the Skellywag name. Malifaux undead don’t have enough pure skeletons, so I’m happy to have these three in my case.
I guess I’ve started Resurrectionists now, so I should probably expand the collection. The nice thing about the M3E hiring rules is that it makes it real easy to figure out what else the game thinks you should buy. Transmortis it is.
I continued with the green and purple vibe of the Albus crew box. These guys especially need splatter so they aren’t too clean.
I dig the pose on this model, but his mechanical arms are a real pain. He doesn’t quite fit in the standard KR foam slot, and the claws are pretty thin. I think i’ve reglued one of his claws at least three times. Eventually I’ll give up.
I’ve often tried to do irritated flesh. Mr Stilts here is one of the few successes.
