Finishing out the Gorgons, we have the somewhat more, but not fully, modestly dressed Medusa.

The studio model for Medusa has a really great translucent look for the veils. I decided I’d try to replicate it. It isn’t quite what I was hoping for, but it gets the job done.

I tried a couple of different approaches. First I painted it all flesh colored and tried to tint it with a wash. Then I tried mixing the flesh and cloth colors.

What ended up working was to paint it all the cloth basecoat, then apply thin layers of the flesh tones in the recesses. The thinness let some of the blue shine through on the model. Finally, I highlighted the raises parts, since the further away from the skin the less translucent it would appear.
