This was also my first game against my opponent, who goes by Yoritomo Jiriki on various forums. I had to cheat the ToMB rules a bit, since it was nominally a league game at 50ss.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Close deployment<\/li>\n<li>Reckoning<\/li>\n<li>A Line in the Sand, Outflank, Bodyguard, Breakthrough, and Make Them Suffer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My crew:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Zoraida with Crystal Ball and Hex Bag<\/li>\n<li>Bad Juju with Eternal Fiend and Fears Given Form<\/li>\n<li>3x Silurids<\/li>\n<li>Terror Tot<\/li>\n<li>Depleted<\/li>\n<li>Doppelganger<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Terror Tot, Depleted, and Doppelganger are all outside of the ToMB format, but I needed to get to 50ss somehow.<\/p>\n<p>His crew (roughly):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Von Schill with Shirt Comes Off<\/li>\n<li>Steamtrunk<\/li>\n<li>Taelor<\/li>\n<li>Lazerus<\/li>\n<li>Librarian<\/li>\n<li>Hodgepodge Effigy<\/li>\n<li>Sue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I took Bodyguard and declared Breakthrough. My opponent did not declare any schemes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_767\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-767\" style=\"width: 474px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/deployment.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-S7hDXHsq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-767\" src=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/deployment-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Deployment\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/deployment-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/deployment-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-767\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Deployment<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>My thinking was to use the Silurids and Tots for Breakthrough scheme markers, and Eternal Fiend on Bad Juju ought to make Bodyguard reasonable. Hopefully, the Depleted would help to tarpit somebody, while being a bit difficult to take down for Make Them Suffer or Reckoning. I failed to consider what I would do with the Doppelganger.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_768\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-768\" style=\"width: 474px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/badjuju_in_trouble.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-S7hDXHsq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-768\" src=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/badjuju_in_trouble-1024x769.jpg\" alt=\"Bad Juju about to get smacked\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/badjuju_in_trouble-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/badjuju_in_trouble-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/badjuju_in_trouble.jpg 1524w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-768\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bad Juju about to get smacked<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>First turn, two of my Silurids and a Tot ran up the flanks to put down Breakthrough markers. \u00a0Zoraida summoned a Voodoo Doll who Hemed the Steamtrunk, and loaded it up with Poison. \u00a0Most of the rest kind of bunched up in the middle, and my other\u00a0Silurid got murdered.<\/p>\n<p>Bad Juju ended up charging into a furball in the middle of the board. \u00a0He did some damage, but as much as I wanted.<\/p>\n<p>Turn two, things started really going badly for me. \u00a0My opponent first killed a Silurid, revealing Make Them Suffer, then took down Bad Juju. \u00a0That left only a final Silurid and Zoraida as possible targets to bring Bad Juju back. \u00a0I over-focussed on the Hemmed Steamtrunk, and took it down. \u00a0On the plus side, I got a lot of Breakthrough markers down.<\/p>\n<p>Turn three, I brought my final Silurid into combat. \u00a0I wanted it to die, just to get Bad Juju back out. \u00a0My opponent obliged, but managed to Paralyze Bad Juju\u00a0with Von Schill&#8217;s shirt before he could activate. \u00a0Zoraida summoned another Voodoo Doll, but failed to Hem anything.<\/p>\n<p>Through turns four and five, my opponent just took my crew apart piece by piece. \u00a0In the end, all I had was Zoraida. \u00a0At least he was unable to remove enough scheme markers to deny me Breakthrough.<\/p>\n<p>The game ended with a solid loss, 3 to 5+. \u00a0There was some uncertainty as to how many Make Them Suffer points my opponent\u00a0had achieved, but he definitely had a good win.<\/p>\n<p>I made a number of serious mistakes in this game:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I took a Doppelganger without any real plan for her. \u00a0That&#8217;s 7 stones that weren&#8217;t put to use.<\/li>\n<li>I had too many scheme runners for my schemes<\/li>\n<li>I didn&#8217;t have enough Swampfiends to keep Bad Juju going<\/li>\n<li>I got\u00a0excited about the Voodoo Doll, but didn&#8217;t consider carefully enough what to use it on. \u00a0Furthermore, when I was in a bad position, I stuck with it and essentially wasted my AP rather than\u00a0moving to a new one.<\/li>\n<li>In this strategy and scheme pool, I really should have taken another heavy hitter, and fewer little guys.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hopefully I can keep these lessons in mind next time!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I got in my first game with Zoraida last week at the FLGS.
