Hobby Year in Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s almost the new year, so I think I&#8217;m contractually obligated to write up some kind of\u00a0retrospective. \u00a0I started tracking my backlog (and therefore all hobbying) in January, and blogging in May, so I actually have a pretty good record. \u00a0In the last few weeks I&#8217;ve caught up with all the projects I completed in 2014 but hadn&#8217;t yet written up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall stats<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I started the year pretty deep in hobby debt, with a significant backlog from a store closing sale, and went deeper after\u00a0buying a Space Marines Strikeforce for some <a href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/category\/inquisition-war\/\">Inquisition War<\/a> projects. \u00a0I <a title=\"Backlog complete\" href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/2014\/12\/02\/backlog-complete\/\">dug myself out<\/a>, though, and worked all the way through the backlog.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/burndown1.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-UM8xCm5F\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/category\/malifaux\/\">Malifaux<\/a> models and 16 <a href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/category\/reaper\/\">Reaper<\/a> Bones models)<\/li>\n<li>18 vehicles (14 40k, 4 non-game airplanes)<\/li>\n<li>19 markers, tokens, and the like<\/li>\n<li>6.7% of the Bones Kickstarter models completed<\/li>\n<li>New workspace, with much more functional desk, shelves, and <a href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/19\/tools-gamecraft-paint-racks\/\">paint racks<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Exclusively used painted models in every game<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/category\/40k\/\"><strong>Warhammer 40,000<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revenant-header.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Warzone Harat three-part campaign finished up in January. \u00a0The finale was an apoc-style event, which got me to buy and paint up a Revenant Titan, my first experience with Forge World. \u00a0The other big ongoing event was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theindependentcharacters.com\/forums\/viewtopic.php?f=12&amp;t=6729\">Inquisition War<\/a> campaign at Endgame, which gave me the excuse to paint up old Necromunda models as the Inquisitor and retinue, and finally do the Deathwatch Kill Team I&#8217;ve been considering for ages.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, I had a pretty large backlog to work through, which meant quite a bit of Ultramarines, Dark Eldar, and Eldar got hobbied.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/category\/inquisition-war\/\">Inquisition War<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Inquisition War: miniatures game into the mix, but had never pulled the trigger. \u00a0Early in the year I got a demo of Malifaux. \u00a0Then, Wyrd&#8217;s summer painting contest convinced me to pick up and paint a box. \u00a0Once that was done, I had no choice but to play.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, I&#8217;ve built up a decent selection of models. \u00a0I still don&#8217;t really know what I&#8217;m doing, but I get built-in excuse to show off your work. \u00a0I only found a little time for it this year, but\u00a0like the results.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"WWII Egg Planes\" href=\"http:\/\/paintedguys.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/23\/wwii-eggplanes\/\">P-51 eggplane<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Looking to 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malifaux is occupying most of my miniatures brain these days. \u00a0I&#8217;ve got a pretty decent backlog already which will probably take me through February or so.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adepticon.org\/\">Adepticon<\/a> in March. \u00a0I&#8217;m signed up for a mix of 40k, Malifaux, and hobby seminars. \u00a0I haven&#8217;t decided what, if any, hobby goals I have ahead of the con. \u00a0If I want to do anything special (build out my Deathwatch for Combat Patrol, maybe?), I need to get serious about it soon.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, it&#8217;s hard to say. \u00a0I have a hard time imagining myself starting a new 40k army at this point, but I can see myself building my existing ones out. \u00a0I have an desire\u00a0to\u00a0complete the Neverborn faction in Malifaux (well, the plastics, anyways). \u00a0I get to play few enough games that I worry I won&#8217;t understand all the rules, much less actually play with them.\u00a0 Or maybe I should collect masters instead of factions.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also got my eye on both Dropzone Commander and Firestorm Armada, but I&#8217;m pretty sure I already have too many
